On 26 September 2014 it was on with the
kettle and out with the cakes as some
of our branch and Head Office teams
took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee
Morning to raise money for Macmillan
Cancer Support.
Together they joined the rest of the country
in doing their bit to support people living with
cancer and helped raise more than £2,500!
Everyone really got into the spirit of it, selling
coffees and teas as well as showing off their
baking skills with homemade cakes and
savouries. They even organised other events
including book stalls and a tombola to raise
that little bit extra.
Colleagues and customers had a great
time and it was wonderful to see everyone
supporting this deserving charity.

The votes have now been counted for
this year’s Grassroots Giving, our national
scheme to support local causes. We’re
pleased to announce that the 161 groups,
clubs and organisations that will receive
a £500 donation have now been chosen.
Congratulations to all the winners!
Competition was tougher than ever this
year, with 336 applications from up and
down the country.
We had a brilliant response for both
nominations and votes. All the 27,862
votes were cast by people who wanted
to support their chosen project,
knowing what the donation would
mean to them. It’s been great to see
involvement grow so much since we
launched Grassroots Giving in 2013
to celebrate our 160th anniversary.
This year’s winners represent a real mix of
groups from across the country, spanning
all age ranges and interests. From gift
boxes for children in hospital and social
groups for the elderly to badminton, bowls
and a ladies barbershop chorus, it’s great
to see so many different groups in the mix
this year.
The Grassroots Giving website has
a full list of all the winning groups.
There’s also a range of useful online
resources to download, including guides
to applying for funding, recruiting and
managing volunteers and securing
corporate support.

organisations that
applied for Grassroots
Giving this year was
incredible, from music
and youth groups to
sports clubs and even
an astrological society.
